This four step training program, lasting 3.5 years, is designed to give the employee the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to become a lineman as per Corn Belt Energy policy.

A. The Apprentice Lineman is responsible for the following tasks:
a. Install transformers, regulators and reclosers, and make the proper wiring connections.
b. Operate and work from aerial bucket trucks.
c. Perform lineman duties on both secondary and primary voltages on energized lines.
d. Operate equipment including, but not limited to, line construction trucks, backhoes, trenchers, service vans, pickups and service trucks.
e. Understand theories of voltage regulation, fault currents and coordination of line protection devices.
f. Use of all hand tools, implements, devices, equipment and material required for work.
g. Construct overhead and underground lines and operative all equipment necessary to complete those tasks.
h. Basic metering that includes connecting service as well as disconnects.
i. Cut and trim trees as needed.
j. Must be able to read and comprehend the text and workbooks to complete the Apprentice Program.
k. Develop a working knowledge of construction specifications and the National Electrical Safety Code.
l. Capable of understanding and applying all OSHA and company regulations and safety rules necessary to perform the job.
m. Possess the ability and skill to learn to climb poles and towers.
n. Required to submit to and pass random drug testing as per DOT requirements, as well as submit and pass a CDL physical and medical examiners certificate and hearing test regularly.
o. Frequently maintains both underground and overhead electrical system by replacing damaged transformers, breakers, regulators, conductor, insulators, meter loops, poles, switching gear and related equipment on energized and de-energized lines. These duties are qualified in the JATC Standards of Apprenticeship; step advancement guidelines.
p. Performs related duties to line construction which includes accounting for materials used, stocking trucks, loading and unloading materials, and inspecting distribution and transmission line for necessary maintenance.
q. Submits all required paperwork as needed to comply with company rules and government regulations.
r. Must live within a 15 mile radius of: the Bloomington office for central lineman, and the Princeton office for northern region lineman.

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

A. High School Diploma/GED required.
B. Accredited electrical line worker course of study or previous line crew experience strongly preferred.
C. Illinois CDL-A
D. CPR certification

Work will be performed inside and outside; with the outside work involving various weather conditions.
A. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands, arms, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; climb or balance; smell, talk, and hear.
B. Employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
C. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
D. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
E. Requires face-to-face discussions with individuals.
F. Includes exposure to contaminants.
G. Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
H. Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.

A. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require.
B. Must observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by CBEC.
C. Must attend schools and conferences as requested by the CBEC management.
D. Must be able to travel on a limited basis. Most trips will be limited to a two hundred mile radius of office; occasional other trips in the country.
E. Must purchase tools and equipment as specified by CBEC policy.
